Hangar
One vodka is made on the old Alameda
Air Station.
We’ve been on the base since 1986 because the rent is cheap
and we like it here. We moved to the current hangar in 2004,
when we outgrew our old space on the other side of the base.
Our hangar was built around the time the Alameda Naval Air Station
opened in 1940, and was used by the military till the base closed
down around 1997. We work in an incredible example of WWII industrial
architecture, with clerestory windows, exposed braces, and redwood
ceilings. We try to leave stuff pretty much as it always has
been (although we had to cut through a whole lot of machine grease
to get to the floor). In 2005, we added a tasting room to the
front, so people can look out at the San Francisco skyline and
into the distillery while tasting through everything we make.
If you’re in the area, stop in and visit us. Our tasting
room is open Wednesday-Saturday 12-7, Sunday 12-6. Make sure
you check out the directions -
the base can be a little confusing to navigate.
