Well, distilling without a federal permit is “moonshining,” and it’s a felony. There are a ton of federal regulations that make starting up a distillery very time-consuming.

You can experiment with infusion. Take something you really like the flavor of and soak it in vodka (or rum or brandy). Vanilla extract, for example, is made by soaking vanilla beans in brandy. Each fruit takes a different amount of time - usually days or weeks. In general, things that are juicy are much harder to keep from going bad. The fresher and higher quality your ingredients, the better your infusion will taste.
